Senior Advisory Board Member (2011-2012)
In Memory Of
Janis Teruko Koyanagi
1969-2012
"Janis was a steadfast role model and inspirational leader who approached work and life with passion, grace and a unflappable sense of humour. The team at NAAAP Toronto is privileged to have known Janis and we all feel her loss immensely. We celebrate Janis' life as a true professional, mother, wife, sister, daughter, colleague, friend and honour her memory through our continued efforts to support women empowerment and leadership excellence." - The NAAAP Toronto Executive Team
Janis was a passionate and valuable professional at the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) and TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV). Her intelligence, charisma and charm had lead her to become the Vice President of Business Development & Strategy. Janis had carved a path in an industry predominately held by men and remained dedicated to motivating others to find their voice in unknown territories. Janis started her professional career at PriceWaterhouse Coopers in audit, tax and corporate finance after graduating from University of Western Ontario. She was successful in obtaining both her Chartered Accountant and Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Janis found herself in a position at the Bank of Montreal as a Senior Analyst and soon pioneered herself as the first female asian Vice-President at the TSX and TSXV. Her team’s mandate was to build TSX and TSX Venture listings and international business alliances across all industry sectors with a focus on Asia, Latin America, Europe, Africa, Australia and USA. Conciseness and impressionable communication had been the key to Janis’ success.
In addition to her role at TSX and TSXV, Janis was devoted to motivating other professionals. She believed that her position at the TSX and TSXV helped open doors towards inspiring others to attain their goals. She also believed a command of communication skills had played a strong role in all her accomplishment and liked nothing better than to share her knowledge.
